The Importance of Security in Iraq
In Iraq it was clear to me from some of my first patrols before I was even in charge of my platoon that we were woefully undermanned. Things had spiraled out of control by the summer of 2006 so we were fighting not just an insurgency but a pretty bitter sectarian war as well. One of my key lessons I took away from my time in Iraq is that security has to come first whether you're talking about trying to secure a country or win a war.
