The Context of Isaiah 53
The New Testament has very good reasons for identifying Isaiah 53 as an individual servant who suffers for the nation of Israel. "Isaiah 40 through 55, this many scholars, many scholars call this section of Isaiah, Isaiah's new exodus" The focus is a future exodus, a redemption of Israel and they are in exile because of their sins. And so it is so clear that in order to understand Isaiah 40 through 55 in the context of the book, we have to realize that Isaiah is presenting Israel's redemption.
