The Effects of Time Dilation on Black Hole Collisions
Time should be slowing down almost to a standstill near the edge of each black hole. As they start to merge, woldn things kind of freezin. We are seeing the effects of that time dilation already. If there wasn't time dilation, then that gravitational radiation just before the ollision would be going insanely fast.
