The Pain of Not Being Recognized
A lot of philosophers will talk about how we need recognition from other people in order to feel validated as a self. We develop certain expectations because human interaction is always normative, right? It follows certain norms. And it's when those norms are violated that we are ethically harmed. When we don't get that validation, we're just sort of left questioning not only our relation to the other person, but also our own existence.
