The Impact of Alan Turing on Computer Chess

In early computer chess there was this big debate which was are we going to be able to create a great computer chess program by building one that's able to out calculate a human being. It turned out that at least for that era raw calculating ability was more important and getting being able to search deeper was more important than being able to look at a ton of different factors for each position. Maybe in a future episode we'll talk about some of these giants of computer science and the impact that they made beyond just their computer chess work.
