Zan elabadin fuad, a well known egyptian poet was hauled into court following the unrest. Enraged crowds fought bloody street battles with the police, leaving almost 80 people dead. Riot troops used tear gas against the crowds who had paralyzed public transport,. closed down factories and damaged many buildings. The government prosecutor pointed a finger at one man in particular.
