The Power of Jealousy

Marianne's friends stopped talking to her because they're all paranoid about the police who are asking them as well and having their phones tapped. This like comes in and breaks up the community that they're a part of. So when she needs social support, it becomes impossible. And I just think that like the degree to which the police had made themselves the enemies of queer New Yorkers is such a big part of this. If these are people that you only see in the context of them harassing you and shaking you down and treating you as something less than human, then  that would make it so much harder to make that call.
