In practice, how quickly can NTP bring clocks that are desynchronized back together? At least with some of the newer time demons. It takes 12 seconds to remove one second of error. So you were a day would be 86,400 times 12, which is a lot of seconds. And so that's because the Windows NTP demon we were running was configured to just smash the clock to the correct value and not do any of the kind of adjusting of the rate.
