Mouse Model Monotheism

In general, researchers tend to study models that allow them to obtain statistically significant, replicable results in relatively short amounts of ime. Do you see this as a problem generated by the machine of publication dictating how research should be done? Or is there good reason, in terms of scientific progress and clinical developments, to do thins the way that academic and publishing demand for research demands are met? I want to say one more thing, that thing as it is, probably the best way to change things is to have a little top down control from the funding body.
