In February of this year, Russia's President Vladimir Putin launched what was this time a full-scale invasion. Based on his previous experience in the east, his clear expectation was that Russian forces would capture the capital Kiev in a matter of days. But as the weeks went by, it became apparent that Putin had badly underestimated not just the resolve of Ukraine's armed forces, but also the willingness of the West to come to the aid of Kiev.
