The Villages of Oberstorf
In 1933, after Hitler has been sworn in as Germany's Chancellor, what's a reaction in a village like Oberstorf to the start of what they must have thought was a brand new period of German pride? Well, I think there was relief that at last they had a strong leader and there was going to be a strong government. And from his position as mayor, he did his best to mitigate some of the worst aspects of Nazi rule. He remained mayor right the way through until 1945. Although he was a robust Nazi, certainly at the beginning, he was actually a decent human being,. which is an odd thought because most of us would say it's impossible.
