What Does Suffering Do?
I like it in the book when you talk about how every one of us is in need of some kind of redemptive assistance. And quite often though it's also when you are extending yourself in kindness or grace to somebody else too. I had a friend who she lost a daughter and one of the things she told me was that the people who were close to her, some of them didn't show up in the moment of grief. But there were people who she barely knew who showed up. They came from far away and they showed up. When you are getting that love from a person you barely know, that's unmerited love. That's grace.
