Catholics Aren't Banned From Secret Society Membership
The church doesn't actually ban membership in secret societies. That's not what Canon Law says. And so it was, it's actually okay to be members of secret societies provided they're using their powers for good. But you could join other groups like that have secret stuff, like the Knights of Columbus until recently. The reason is because back in the 19th century, they didn't have the internet.
