The Fall of the Empire

Napoleon had an ability, but ultimately the reason that the Empire falls is because it's impossible to establish a lasting peace. And my argument would be that it's a lack of compromise that sees that failure for a lasting peace settlement to materialise. In 1807 he famously concludes the Treaty of Tilset with the Russians,. It seems like he's going to be the great dominant power in Europe for the foreseeable future. But the issue with Napoleon is that at any one of the various wars of coalition, and there are seven across the period 1789 to 1815, you can argue that Napoleon was attacked and that the Allies moved first.
