Clayton: Would you be able to tell us a little bit more context of how mindfulness has shifted shapes as it comes to the West and becomes popularized? Thank you. Clayton: In my book I really am considering two primary influences in the formation of what I'll describe later as white mindfulness. The first occurred mainly in Myanmar as a political Buddhist nationalism which was anti the colonial project of British occupation. And the second of these significant phases occurs in the US with the rise of the western vipassana movement.
