Why Go Forward if Everything Is Doomed?

The Dutch Republic, the United Provinces, is fully separate from the front lines. The commercial capital of Amsterdam was one of the most active participants in the whole thing. All the world's treasures flowed into Amsterdam and these guys turned it into art architecture. This is an Armenianism that became secular liberalism. And why? Because they experienced the war as a transaction.
