Kristen Smart's earring was found on a property six months after she disappeared. The Sheriff's Department said it had been misplaced and forgot to tell her parents. Police never secured a search warrant for the home where Paul lived with his father, Rubin. For reasons that are unclear, Kristen's family didn't hear about the earring until 1997.
