As Lincoln faces re-election in 1864, the omens do not look good for him. The Emancipation Proclamation wins him many admirers but also strengthens those who oppose him. On top of that, the Union forces are struggling to make serious headway on the battlefield. After years of stalemate, the Union finds itself with momentum. But you know, Lincoln looked forward to November and said, I'm going to lose probably,. And everybody else around him knew he was going to lose.
