The New York Islanders' Future
The New York Islanders have a new look for the upcoming season, but not much else. The team had rocked bottom a couple years earlier when they were swept in humiliating fashion by their hated rivals,. Legendary Islanders coach Al Arber retired that off season. Attendance dropped from 14,000 a game during the team's heyday to less than 5,000. Injuries, trades and roster mismanagement had relegated Long Island to the laughingstock of the league.
