The Narrow Corridor of Inclusion in Political Institutions
The focus is on the emergence of inclusive political institutions. We tried to refocus on other aspects of society that we think probably people value. Somalia is an example where actually you have very broad distribution of political power, but there was no state traditionally in Somalia. And there really isn't much of a state today. It never existed. But that's a completely different society, of course, from China, where you have a different sort of failure of inclusive institutions. Once you start unpacking that, that looks really interesting and the distinctions look enormous.
