The Importance of Surprise

A perfect battle plan is like nothing so much as the score for an orchestral composition. And General Sejong Monash put it really well when he compared the commander of a battle to being like that of the conductor of the orchestra. So next is security, concerned with measures taken by a commander, protect itself from espionage, sabotage, subversion, observation or surprise. Now following on from security, you've got surprise. Surprise struck the enemy at a time or place or in a manner for which he is not expecting. It can produce results out of all proportion to the effort expended.
