Why Scotland Is Still Part of the United Kingdom

There was a referendum on Scottish independence in 2014. 55% of the Scottish population voted to remain in the UK, while 45% voted to leave. In order to keep the Union intact, there have been recent concessions to allow Scotland more powers of self-governance. But for how long that remains is another question. And as far as the opinion polls are concerned, it does suggest that if a referendum were held today, then Scotland would vote to leave the United Kingdom and become an independent country.
