The Origins of Yoga in the Global North
The modern yoga wellness, self care, new thought new age scene has really solid roots in an early modern period specifically in the global north. We see that everything that we've inherited from that period begins with a deep sense of anxiety within the white middle classes of Europe at the tail end of colonialism. There's a lot of white guys who are very concerned that they're going to be replaced by brown people and that particular anxiety is central to the message of physical nature.
