How to Be a Successful PhD Student in France
Piketty did his PhD in history of economics at the University of Bordeaux. He says it was a very loose program, with students trading nice reads and trying to emulate each other's work. Piketty: "I think France was lagging the US" when it came to training people for their jobs. But now they're making progress into more systemized programs like summer schools or even university-based courses.
