The double-plagal cadence is a chord progression that's very popular in pop music. It starts on one chord and then resolves to another, it's just one of those rules of European music theory. In the key of G you would instead go from C to G rather than D to G. Lorde's song Royals was a huge hit back in the early 2010s. Great use of the double-plageal cadence in that song.
