The Advantages of the Treaty With the United States
Yoshida and his allies did have a few advantages that were not readily apparent to outside observers. Japan's pre-war bureaucracy remained more or less intact during and after the occupation. Article 9 prohibited the creation of an active Japanese military, allowing Yoshida and his Allies to concentrate what limited wealth Japan had purely on economic matters.
