In Bridgerton, which the OG Bridgerton refers to this, so you are presented at court to the sovereign, and you are now, quote, out and available for marriage. This is where Charlotte's inclination to dress old-timey kind of plays in because she insisted that the girls still come in the big hoop skirts. The actual name Queen Charlotte's ball not only went on until 1976, but has recently, I think as of 2011 or 2012, been resurrected.
