The Gnome in the White Dress

Gnomes know that creatures can't resist the urge to tell riddles. They strike a deal, passage into the garden in exchange for solving one. The head gnome furrows his brow and says he doesn't know how to come up with tricky rhymes which will stump the smartest humans. Best to leave the sphinx where it is at the gate, says the head gnome. With the case closed, the gnomes return to their hollows under the trees or to their garden plots.
