Taiwan's Military Proposed Amendments to a Mobilization Law to Criminalize Spreading Rumors
Taiwan's military has agreed to temporarily put on hold controversial proposed amendments to this law. The changes would give government control of all the media when Taiwan is mobilized for conflict. They would punish spreading rumors or disinformation during wartime with up to three years in prison and $32,000 fines. Another aspect of the amendment would require education authorities to provide a list of students aged 16 and up raising concern among parents that their children could be drafted.
