Xenophon's Parallel Lives
Xenophon is our latest source for this time period, as he wrote in the late first and early second centuries AD. His parallel lives is not the work of a historian, but of a biographer who explicitly aims to draw moral lessons from the lives of great men in the past. He gives us very useful anecdotes, not found elsewhere, which should not be dismissed entirely. But again his moralizing tone should always be used with caution when trying to piece together the past.
