At the same time as this great evil has arisen, we're seeing the best of what the church an how the church can respond. And that's actually the beauty of democracy. That is how democracy images god, the love of god, not always insisting on its own way. This kind of patriotism is not in the least aggressive. It asks only to be let alone. It becomes militant only to protect what it loves. and i think that's playing out in front of us right now well.
