Roger Williams - The Originator of Our Modern Understandings of Religious Liberty

He described Christian nationalism as contrary to 400 years of Baptist history and everything I believe about religious liberty. If any group in American Christianity would be more opposed to a national church, it would be Baptists who've been just hounded and chased around the world for going against national churches. Roger Williams is like one of the first Baptists in America and he was the originator of our modern understandings of religious liberty. He found the state of Rhode Island or the colony of Rhode Island and it was the first government charter that officially separated the church and state anywhere in the Western world. So this is core to Baptist belief that these things should be separated.
