Without any treatment whatsoever, salmonella and terrocolitis tends to be a self-limited infection that does clear up over the course of about a week. If these bacteria enter through the wall of your colon or your small intestine and make it into your bloodstream, they can cause a systemic infection. And that can be really severe, just like typhoid. So as long as you can keep something down, stay hydrated and avoid electrolyte imbalances from this diarrhea then you're going to be okay.
