The Role of Socioeconomic Factors in Climate Change Losses
We observe upward trends of losses from weather-related events in many parts of the world. The first element of these drivers are socioeconomic factors, so increasing wealth and population. And inflation, of course, today plays a major role in this as well. But even after adjusting for inflation and wealth, we do see in some regions upward trends with respect to losses which cannot be explained by the socioeconomic factors.
