The State of Democracy in Turkey Following the Election

The New York Times noted that the vote was, quote, free, but not fair. Erdogan's negative messages against the opposition helped define Khrushchev in a manner that made him unacceptable to huge parts of the population. The democratic dilemma here is that Erdogan came to power with his AKP democratically, but he has ensured that he does dominate the democratic system.
