The Folkloric Process
Before the invention of Gutenberg's printing press, oral communication was the predominant means of passing along information. Literate culture took over as being the predominant culture making sort of style. With oral tradition, it is multi authored, not single authored. It is spoken, not written down, which means that it is transient and shifting.
