Is the Overview Effect a Real Thing?
The overview effect is a cultural phenomenon. It has been shaped by a certain group of people working under a certain set of pressures who wanted to make sure that they could fly again so they couldn't say anything outrageous. Many of these stories come from the midst of the space race in the middle of the Cold War. That definitely shapes a person's perspective. So I would say that seeing Earth from space is not a one size fits all reaction.
