Introduction
Christian Riley: We have a very dysfunctional international financial system. He says debtors are responsible for making the adjustments, and therefore they have to try and protect themselves by trying to be a net exporter or accumulate foreign exchange reserves. So right now there are a lot of debates about the endolarization - how Chinese Yuan may in some ways replace the dollar's hegemonic status. But I think the real question is, do we simply want to replace one currency with the other? Do we want to reform the system so that we don't have the perceived need to accumulate reserves as a deficit or debtor country? The international financial system is failing them.
Patricia & Christian talk to Kremer Endowed Chair of Economics at Willamette University, Professor Yan Liang about China’s economy, international trade, sovereign wealth funds, de-dollarisation, and more.
