The Evolution of Moral Virtue

Darwin's theory did not have the capacity to explain all of the behaviors that we associate as virtuous. A group of altruists will robustly out-compete a group of selfish individuals. Any trait that's for the good of the group will be positively selected by between group competition. That was why Darwin needed the theory of group selection in order to explain this very important class of traits, says David Wheeler.
