Can You Smell It?
"We've come the wrong way altogether. Seemingly we can't get down," Frodo says of Mordor. "If we did get down, we'd find all that greenland a nasty bog,. Whew. Can you smell it? He sniffed at the wind." It must stink if they're able to smell it from there, said frodok. But he did not move, and his eyes remained fixed, staring out towards the dark line and the flickering flame. They know they have to get there, but they don't want to actually be any closer. This is so fun to read: Sam's just got so much pure, raw wisdom.
