An agent will more likely take on someone with potential that a publisher won't. The fear I would have with an agent is, what if this is just my brain going, where are the fail points? An agent who's very well connected can at a click of an email get you a sweet gig, but they're dealing with a hundred other people. You know, it depends on what your choice, your choice is.
