Terry Tillie's Paranoia

In the Vanity Fair article, John is mentioned noticing that it's friends who are suddenly agents of this Freemasonic cult or conspiracy to tear the family apart. He appeals to that sense of grandeur in a way that is interesting to me because looking at pictures of Terry Tillie, he's not a striking, conventionally attractive or imposing man. And I wonder if because he doesn't seem as imposing, it's almost more seductive in a way.
