What Caused So Much Lightning?

There were 63 thousand a lightning strikes per 15 minute are recording interval. This was one of the biggest lightning events that at least this group of researchers had seen. Huge amounts of fine material as also a result of that sea water interaction and that incredibly explosive event. It must have been something to watch, if it hadn't been so very devastating, dangerous.
