Movie Review: Call Her Savage

Savage is a pre code melodrama that leans into the things that would soon be banned from the screen. Every few minutes she'll give a line reading that is not only appropriate, but almost shockingly authentically felt. Once nassa is pulled off the texas ranch where she is grown up and sent to finishing school, clara's performance becomes more finely calebrated. By the end of the movie, she is given the kind of irresistible, tough, leading lady performance that would fine hollywood's greatest movies for much of the next two decades.
