GPT 3.5 and the Demand Effect in the Technology Sector
I wanted to ask a question about complementarity. One of the things that GPT does reasonably well is it will generate pretty serviceable code right? So it will do a natural language prompt and it will write some code for you. Now obviously there have been kind of two forces happening over the past few years. First the demand for programming work has gone up hugely and secondly the automation of programming work has also proceeded very fast. I was wondering if part of the layoffs that we have seen in the tech sector during the winter were caused by this increasing automation of programmers.
