Matt: My background is actually in theoretical astrophysics, which is maybe the least practical thing you can go get a degree in. I studied string theory and cosmology in the context of string theory. After grad school, I worked on projects related to what's called electronic warfare. As CTO of machine aerospace corporation, I branched out into other areas. We built devices that would help predict hypovolemic shock by looking at the structure of pressure waves in the blood. And also, we used similar technology to automatically identify animals and camera trap images for ecologists.
