The challenge of the main character in the book is how to bring back a dionysian spirit into this apollonian world. They see their role exclusively as artists who preservers culture and view creation almost as a taboo. Like joseph knecht writes a few youthful poems that are reproduced at the end of the book but then they're scandalous.
