In 1968 people were really carrying pictures of chairman Mao. In Oakland the Black Panther Party would raise money by selling Mao Zedong's little red book at demonstrations on the UC Berkeley campus. John Lennon saw things differently and said in 1968 that if we want to demonstrate we have to meet them on their own ground.
