How Did Slavery End?
Early on, it seems to have been possible for romans to go voluntarily into slavery in order to pay off a debt. But that was abolished very early on and i'm talking early republic, not even midre bi really. Various laws were passed at various times to kind of restrict the category of slaves. It's true christianity did appeal to slaves and women because it it ca gave you this idea of an after life where you wouldn't suffer the same kinds of restrictions as you do in life.
