The Relational Movement and Counter-Transference
The work of Heinrich Rocker in the 60s, South American cycloanalyst, slowly depathologized counter-transference. If you're feeling irritated at this patient, what's the matter with you? Go back and think about your own history to see if you can get better. I don't do a whole lot of that because it often is very distressing to patients to find out that they're having that reaction to you. So I think the relational movement has been very important in continuing the process of de-pathologizing counter- transference.
